You'll be met at Shanghai Pudong airport and spend your first night in Shanghai itself. At the hotel you'll be provided with an orientation folder with a bag of tricks you can make use of later on. Join us for dinner if you wish- our treat. Next morning we'll take you by bus to Qiong Long Getaway base.

Suzhou city in Jiangsu Province is about an hour west from Shanghai by train and two hours by bus/car. Qiong Long Getaway is about one hour south-east of Suzhou City by bus. What a great location to live for ten days. We love this place. It is classically Chinese and situated in a very small village at the foot of Qiong Long Mountain. Rooms are shared by two guests and are clean and comfortable with private shower and western style toilet. There are plenty of woodlands and hills to walk around in the nearby surroundings and buses available regularly to take you further a field. Each morning before breakfast you can, if you want, practice some Tai Chi moves in the courtyard with our Master. He'll be there and hoping you will join him. If you wish, a variety of massage treatments are provided every other day from seasoned practioners. Apart from that and your food we will introduce you to what's going on and to a variety of potential experiences that might interest you. (We hope we get the chance to discuss this with you before you come over so we can try to arrange your trip to suit your preferences and instinct).

A variety of interesting walks in the countryside or around a village/town/city just to soak up the culture
Spend the night in a 1000 year old Buddhist monastery*
Go cormorant fishing on Tai Hu Lake
Hire an electric scooter* (very cheap) and hit the road
Hop on the bus* (very cheap and a cultural experience in itself), get off somewhere and see what happens
Have dinner with a local village family
Teach English for a little while in a school for the children of local stone workers
Have a health check from a doctor that practices traditional Chinese medicine
Bring a little joy to a local orphanage just by being there and meeting the kids
Hit the bars in Suzhou city and end up singing the night away in a karaoke palace (or wherever)*
Eat exotic food in delightful restaurants or from street vendors*
Join a poker tournament (generally $6.50 buy-in) with some locals and ex-pats*
Simply be amazed at the lifestyle going on around you
Sit in the courtyard of Qiong Long Getaway at night and just think I'm in China! It is fantastic!

The physical end of your cultural experience
The day before you fly home you'll return to Shanghai for an overnight stay at the same hotel. You won't of course feel the same as you did when you first arrived. That's our one and only promise. In the evening we'll take you for a special and very memorable dinner but that's a surprise. Next morning it's off to Shanghai Pudong Airport with you sad to be leaving China but also chomping at the bit to get home to tell your friends and family about your tales of the orient.
