Prayer Banners

Another area of worship, which is different than the use of worship flags and tabrets that we have discussed before, is the use of Prayer Banners as a point of focus for prayer and intercession. Here we consider "prayer banner" to refer to the large banners that are usually hung on a wall or placed in a stand in a stationary position. They can on occasion be taken out, if desired, and be carried about the congregation.

Prayer banners as we know them are not really mentioned in the Bible. However, the concept and principles behind them are. They are used as a point of identification, as a rallying point, and as a focal point for united prayer.

Prayer banners teach us how to pray based on scripture. As people rally around these banners in prayer, they will find themselves interceding. People that have never considered themselves to be intercessors will begin to learn what it means to intercede. They will grow from petitioning God to partnering with God on behalf of others.

Prayer banners display a word of hope and victory for those rallying around them. As we enter into prayer we have a confidence and an expectancy that God is going to work and bring forth the victory. We are simply proclaiming the promises of God's word.

Prayer banners are self-explanatory. When you look at them, you know immediately what they symbolize. The words, symbols, and colors represent a specific area identified for prayer. The banners also help us to remain focused throughout our prayer time. Because of all this, they could be considered "visual aids" to help keep us on track.

The banners promote unity by bringing the believers together for corporate prayer. It is pleasing unto God when the body comes together in unity - for where there is unity, the Lord can command blessing.

Intercession is the purpose, the end goal, of the Prayer Banner Ministry. It teaches us how to do strategic warfare. Through it, we learn how to zero in and target our prayers more effectively. Since we are better targeted because of the right identification, focus and unity, we will begin to see more victories.

Matthew 18:19 says, "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven".

Psalm 133 says, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore".
