*** BassJons Winter Series - Lake Smith - 14 Nov 2009 by Mike Peregrine
Five teams fished a tough day at Lake Smith, with only three able to bring any fish to the scales. Luther Showaker and Bill Field brought in the only multi-fish limit to win by just over 2 oz. Lenny Durso and Romel Soriano mananged to weigh a nice 4 pounder to take lunker prize. Weather was overcast and breezy with light drizzle and air temps in the low to mid 60s. The water level was up 3-5 feet; surface water temps were in the mid-50s, and water clarity was stained to muddy. The next tournament in the winter series is December 12th. Tim Langdon and Cal Gilliam took top honors for the season ending event. They had to over come a 6 lb. deficit on the second day, but 4th cast this morning Tim caught a 6.20 hawg, then added another 13 lbs to come in with whopping 19bs. Everyone just knew Drew and Wayne would catch them today but came in with just 10 lbs. These 2 guys have been terrors all year. Tim and Cal had all the lunkers today. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for participatiing in our little tournaments. These tournaments would not be possible without you. It seems as the season wheres along the attendance drops off. Thanks for the diehards.

2009 Classic Champions - Jim Carlson and Rick Williams
Mostly sunny and breezy. Water temps in the low to high 60s throughout the day. Eleven teams managed eight 5-fish limits. Most fish came on Senkos and crankbaits. More than $700 in winnings was paid out. Jim Carlson and Rick Williams managed to bring the best limit…5 Fish for 15lbs 4ozs and lunker of the day, a nice 5lb hawg. Good job Jim and Rick.
A great tournament to end a good and competitive year of fishing. See you all next year!

14 teams fished Branch today. Only 3 five fish limits. Lenny Shane had the only real lunker 6.24 lbs. W.Branch has been fishing tough recently and today was no exception, except today we had wind and cloud cover which did make for a little better bite. As far as the AOY race goes Drew and Wayne remained in 1st with 3505 pts. James and Gene 2nd 3455 pts. Brad and Danny 3rd 3395 pts.
Bootlegg Fall Brawl tournament is in 2 weeks - Nov. 7th and 8th.

Jerry Patterson and Shane with the winning bag and Big Fish
BassJons closed out the 2009 regular season with 13 boats fishing the Nottoway River. The Angler of the Year award came down to the last tournament, and Jerry Patterson blew the field away to take home the award. The team of Jerry and Shane brought in a monster bag weighing in at 16lbs 4oz that was anchored by the big fish of the tournament at 5lbs 14oz. Congratulations to the BassJons Angler of the Year, Jerry Patterson!
2nd Place went to Rick Burton and Darren Manicone, who brought in 7lbs even, while 3rd went to Dennis Sclater and Mike Kane with 5lbs 14 oz. The bite was tough for most anglers, and the big ones were hard to find. Most anglers reported catching fish on Jigs and Senkos.
Next up is the BassJons Classic on October 24th, and the location is TBD.
