Bob Gooch, known as the dean of Virginia's outdoor writers, died Thursday. A resident of Troy, he had written articles, books and columns for more than 40 years about fishing, hunting and wildlife conservation in Virginia. His writings promoted good sportsmanship, educating youth and preserving the state's natural heritage.
In January, the Fly Fishers of Virginia awarded Gooch with the Nat Burgwyn Lifetime Achievement Award.
Augusta County Bass Jons want to thank him for his hard work on a sport we all love .

Doug Fitzgerald finally got to meet Bass-Jon’s President Bob Bullen at Bassarama on Saturday. Doug presented Bob with an official Augusta County Bass-Jon’s hat. Augusta County Bass-Jon’s was the first affiliate club that Bass-Jon’s sponsored and got off running. We all want to take the time to thank Bob Bullen for all of his hard work and dedication to a sport we all love
