ERNIE BALL BASSES

(1985-current)

Webmasters 2011 Classic Series SR4 finished in "Retroburst".

ERNIE BALL both acquired MUSIC MAN and continued making instruments in 1984. As Pre-EB Sting Ray bridges were used on early EB Sting Ray Basses, many have serial numbers prefixed with a "B". Examples exist up to 1988.

Pre-EB Sabre bridges were also used on early EB Sabre Basses. Consequently, some 1984/1985 Sabres have serial numbers prefixed with a "C". These appear to be rare and limited to very early instruments. In the main, Pre-EB Sting Ray bridges were also used on EB Sabres. Consequently, the "C" prefixed serial disappears and (as with with the EB Sting Ray) the serial becomes pre-fixed with a "B". Examples exist up to 1988.

An early Ernie Ball Bass assembled entirely of Pre-EB parts including a slab body and a neck with only 3 dot markers past the 12th fret (normally contoured body and 4 dot markes past the 12th fret for EB Basses). All made within first couple months of 2001. Total of 100 made: 49 stayed in US, 49 to overseas locations, 1 retained by Ernie Ball and 1 to NAMM organisers. Perhaps EB's answer to the Pre-EB Cutlass Bass. Bridges appear to be a reissue of the 1979 Pre-EB Sting Ray Bridge design (strings through body, adjustable mutes, hollow string saddles with hex screws and the Pre-EB serial numbering system of a "B" followed by 6 digits located on bridge). All finished in Inca Silver with screwed on Black Pearloid pg. Graphite neck with phenolic fretboard made by Status (UK). Micro Tilt for the neck is NOT included. Capstan wheel truss adjustment. The Bass was officially introduced on 18 Jan 2001 at the NAMM international music market, Anaheim, California US. Certificates of Authenticity are signed by the designer (Dudley Gimpel) and state "Centennial Collector Series - Limited Edition".
