Christmas marks the birth of the Savior—God becoming flesh in a Bethlehem stable so He could rescue the world from sin.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14, NIV).
When Jesus became flesh, stepping out of glory and into this world, He fulfilled the many prophecies in the Old Testament that predicted His birth. Isaiah wrote over 700 years before the Savior’s birth: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6, NKJV).
The ultimate reason that Jesus became flesh and entered into this world was to save us from our sins by dying on the Cross. When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming to be baptized at the Jordan River, he cried out, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29, NIV). Jesus died in our place and was raised to glory by the Father so we could be forgiven of our sins and receive the gift of eternal life through faith in Him.
