The War On Newsatism |
Hello:
Thank
you for your attention.
Just
an observation of some current events of which I am sure we are all aware.
Sometimes
one person needs to speak out just to clear the air or to get it off one's
chest so to speak.
So here,
begin I.
The recent
NPR broadcast news conference with Secretary of Defense
Donald
Rumsfeld and members of the press was the epitome of that which can only
be described as the intelligent well informed, clear and concise, confronting
the stupid, stupid news people.
I realize that, news sometimes can be created or generated from incessant queries about things or issues that have been sidestepped or not clearly answered. Further, it is true that, should the official person be skilled in the art of rhetoric, you cannot be sure whether the question was answered or not. This was the genius of the late President Richard Nixon.
During
this particular news conference, the Secretary was emphatically clear,
on all points. This is because the President has been emphatically clear
and straight forward on all points. Not only with the American people,
but with the civilized world as well.
There
was a customary question period after the Secretary's news conference.
It was really appalling as to how many news people just don't get it.
I was
sure that mortgage lenders, landlords and others, would have liked a few
questions tossed out on their behalf, but alas that did not happen.
As a
former broadcaster, news man and interviewer, I was almost dumfounded by
the obtuse nature of the press and their seeming inability to ask one straight
forward meaningful question. Sometimes it appears they were in attendance
somewhere else.
They
seem to be bushwhacked over the fact that our leaders in charge today are
straight forward with the necessary information and facts. The press has
no way to deal with this. It is a whole new ball game evolving here. Can
you believe that what has just been said is fact. This was the news, and
there aint no MO.
The nice
thing is we all heard it, all together and we understood just swell.
It makes
you wonder whether the news people are really that necessary.
Save
for the few antiquated, overpriced advertising flyers with news articles
maybe they are a thing of the past.
Talking
heads will also have a problem as well. It could be that they will finally
appear as stupid as some of us have always felt they were.
There
are exceptions of course. My judgment of skilled journalists is not biased
by party lines.
It is
also significant to note, that I am welcomed by labor Democrats as well
as conservative Republicans in my political life.
The
truth is always the most important element of leadership, combined with
sincere and persuasive delivery without too many flowery terms and niceties.
Bush
is the man for the job, the true man of the hour.
Let
us hope that the press can formulate a new approach to this problem of
a nation united rather than divided by biased journalism.
Thats
the way we see it, for now anyway....
Till
the next random thought.
May
God Bless.
