Invite your friends to a Phantom Tea
So many people have expressed a wish to help IRSA raise money, yet were overwhelmed at the thought of anything "really big". Most fundraisers take an enormous effort of time and energy - and most of us find those at a premium. But those who have tried a Phantom Tea have been delighted at the response from their friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors.
A Phantom Tea is a substitute for an actual fundraising event, be it a dance, auction, bowling or golf benefit. No one has to get dressed up to go to it, find a sitter or sit through long speeches. In the comfort of their own homes, your friends will pull out the tea bag you sent in your invitation (printed by IRSA) and fill out a check to IRSA for the love of your daughter. IRSA will send you a list of donors and thank you cards. We even supply the pre-stamped envelopes and the tea bags!
We hope you will join us in towns and cities all over the world as we take a cup of tea and toast the cure for Rett syndrome. Our official date is October 10. We hope to have a very large group of people around the world sipping a cup of tea, toasting your daughter and wishing for a cure for Rett syndrome. Maybe some of them will even feel inclined to send up a prayer, too. The Tea is a wonderful way to educate friends and family and raise much needed funds for IRSA's programs. We count on you to make it a great success. Thanks!
Call IRSA at 1-800-818-RETT for more information.

GOD gave me a daughter for me to love
He smiled and said I sent her to you from above
She is innocent, as you can see
And to the whole world, that is the way she will always be
I made her special just for you
To love and cherish her whole life through
So when you wrap her in your arms
I know that no one can bring her harm
And when you see her smile so bright
Her little eyes light up the night
She knows me as we meet and talk
And in her dreams we go for walks
She tells me of your love so true
And thanks me for a special mom like you
I know you love her as I do
And remember a lot of other people ....
Love this angel to.

| In Loving Memory ...
Press Release July 16, 2001
CLINTON, MD, July 16, 2001. The International Rett Syndrome Association very deeply regrets the sudden and unexpected death of Abigail Brodsky, 10, on June 30, 2001, in Brooklyn, NY.
Abigail was the sparkling curly-haired child who won the heart of America's superstar, Julia Roberts. The two appeared together in the Discovery Health production of Silent Angels: The Rett Syndrome Story, which continues to air through 2001 on the Discovery Health channel.
Silent Angels is a moving documentary with stories of courageous families who strive to find answers to Rett syndrome, a debilitating condition which is found primarily in girls. All it took was one smile from Abigail, and Julia Roberts joined the campaign for increased understanding of this long-overlooked disorder which is often misdiagnosed as autism or cerebral palsy.
Julia Roberts will appear on the Today Show with Matt Lauer on Tuesday, July 17, to discuss her part in the Silent Angels film and the many ways little Abigail touched her life forever.
Silent Angels: The Rett Syndrome Story will air on Discovery Health on Tuesday, July 17, at 8:00pm (ET).
For information about Rett syndrome and the association's work to advance research, advocacy and family support services, or if you would like to volunteer or make a contribution, please call the IRSA at 1-800-818-RETT.
