2007
Congratulations go to Mark Whetstone and Stu Eversole for their first place finish at Kentucky Lake for winning the 2007 Salmoides Classic! They won a total of $14,670 for their efforts. Their winnings include: $13,000 for first place, $1,000 for the Ranger Cup, and $670 for Big Bass of the second day. They finished with a 10 fish limit for a total weight of 38.28 pounds.
When asked how they won the Classic, they stated they fished finesse worms and light line on the North end of Barkley Lake in 2-6 feet of water. In the 2006 Classic after the first day, they were leading with over 24 pounds; however, the second day was not kind to them as they only brought one keeper to the scales. They didn’t finish in the top 20 to get a check. This year would not repeat that of 2006.
When you talk about versatility these two guys have it. Mark and Stu have qualified for the Classic in three different Divisions (Northern, Erie, and Southern) in the last 3 years. Great job and we will be looking to see a repeat of your success in 2008. Mark is sponsored by Ranger Boats, Dixie Marine, Mercury, Lowrance, and Setyr Rods. Stu is sponsored by Ranger Boats, Dixie Marine, Mercury, Lowrance, Navionics, Gamma Line, G-Loomis Rods, and D-Baits.
Second place went to Mitch Blake and Gary Mohler who qualified through the Northern Division. They finished with 10 bass in two days for a total of 33.92 pounds and cashed a check for $7,000.
Mitch and Gary said their winning pattern came from pitching and flipping a brown and green jig and pig in shallow water in the buck brush. Their first keeper bass of day two was over 5 pounds, caught at about 9:30 and their confidence was extremely high the rest of the day. They spent the two tournament days around the corner of Moors Resort. Great job and keep up the good work!
Third place was won by Gary Dees and Steve Floyd with a total of 31.72 pounds and a 2 day limit of 10 fish. These two fishermen have placed in the top 3 in the last three Salmoides Classic events. Steve also won the first Salmoides Classic which took place at Cumberland Lake. How about that for consistency! Gary and Steve are sponsored by Ranger Boats, Dixie Marine, and D-Baits. Good job and we hope to see you return.
In closing, Salmoides would like to thank our sponsors for their support. We would like to thank Moors Resort, and a special thanks to Kelly for a great job. Mark Woods, thank you for a great location for a fishing tournament. We would also like to thank Ranger Boats, Dixie Marine, Krieger Ford, and Extra Edge, without you this wouldn’t be possible.
