Sugar Creek Bass Anglers
Otis and Jeff Morris 2009 Anglers of the year Stan Jackson and Rex Allen take Classic!
Well they started to pull Raccoon again and the fish cooperated well. The lake is 12 ft down and falling. The fog was rolling in and once we took breakfast in Waveland. We still had to navigate thru the fog. The lake was so bad you could not see the end of the ramp from the top. We missed Hole #1 and had to work our way back up to it. We took around 14 crappie from N0 1. With the fog lifted we headed for #2 and it only gave up 5 but we still had #3. We thought we would take 4 off this bank but they should be big ones. As we were working down the bank another boat pulled in front of us and tied up to the next tree we were going to fish. Rather than get upset we started talking to them and Stan started catching very big crappie on the tree next door and I joined in. They sat on their tree watching us catch 14 big crappie. We moved on down the bank and they moved in on the hot tree. Minnows were not working. We finely got to hole # four and we took the fish needed to fill our limit of 50. We had some crappie up to 13 inches long and lots of 11 and 12 inches. We caught 20+ short fish. Last Saturday I spent all day to get 11 marginal fish. There are a lot of different kinds of fishing going on this year. Bass fishermen are still having tournaments and a lot of catch and release going on. We have watched several boats strip bass fishing. And one boat is targeting white bass. Keep Dennis Garrett in your prayers as his health prevents him from wetting a line this fall.
The 2009 Sugar Creek Bass Anglers fished their Classic October 15&16. Teams started to arrive for the Classic on Rough River Tuesday morning. Four teams got in a good day of practice Tuesday, and all teams hit the lake Wednesday morning. Word on the Lake was muddy water and a real slow bite. You need to realize these are bass fishers, and getting the true story out of any one of them after a practice day is not going to happen. The one thing Bass fisherman do well together is eating. Rex brought deer tenderloin wrapped in bacon and I ‘m not sure what else, but they sure hit the pallet very good. This was put together with just off the vine green beans and jowl bacon. Anglers were still eating’ on this baked deer as the card games got started. Everybody got up Wednesday morning and hit the lake for the last day of practice. Again everyone had a slow day on the lake and was ready to eat. Judy sent me south with six baked potatoes and a t- bone. Steve had a t- bone, Stan and Rex had two and a half inch steaks, and Dennis and Gary had two 4 inch fillets. Stan and I made up a salad as Steve and Rex got the steaks hot. Bass fishers are like Baptists- they sure know how to eat. We had apple smoked salmon as appetizers as we prepared this meal. We had our pre-tournament meeting and started the euchre games. Stan Jackson had the hot euchre seat. Thursday morning-first day of the two day Classic- all hands will be played today. Three teams trailered to another ramp, and four teams stayed at the main ramp. The three boats that trailered arrived back at the main ramp to weigh in, and Mark and Pam were working the dock area hard. They also turned in the best first day totals and big bass. Stan and Rex was about one pound behind, and Joan and Lynn had the third place weight. Fourth place was Jeff and Otis. Gary and Dennis had the fifth place and Max and Brian had sixth place. Yours truly and Steve brought up the rear. Dennis Garrett brought the Awards banquet meal and was it a good one- Tilapia, fried potatoes & cole slaw. Stan brought baked beans, cooking oil and the cooker. We had to go to plan B due to cooker problems. Stan cooked, Jeff fried and we had good fellow ship. Everyone needs to thank Dennis for this great fish, potatoes and cole slaw he brought. He would not take restitution for the great grub. Everyone helped from washing dishes to having a good appetite. Max, Brian, Pam and Mark stayed home and had chili. You guys missed a great meal and awards given away. Joan said Grace and we only put a dent in all the fish. Judy and I will be eating tilapia Saturday for lunch. Thanks again, Dennis. Jeff started the awards and gave yours truly the Big Bass of the year plaque- A 5.33 lb bass from Waveland the last tournament of the year. (Hey Gary the clock is reading 12:40 as I write this). I was pleased and surprised to be asked to give out the rest of the awards. Stan and Rex pulled out the third place trophy of the year on the last tournament. Gary and Dennis were like the energizer bunny. They just kept on fishing and took the second place honors for the year. I think everyone in the club was pleased to see Jeff and Otis get the 2009 Angler of the year award. They fished ten years and only missed one tournament. They are always at the Opens and club members first. And it was a pleasure and honor to present the Angler of the Year trophies to such deserving Sugar Creek Bass Anglers, Otis and Jeff Morris. We elected Dennis Garrett as Vice President. Dennis has not been an officer and we need to recognize his support to accept an office in this bass club. This club has survived 24 years and it is people like Dennis that has kept it fun and not all for the love of money. We also changed the Sub law. You may use more than one sub during the year. Rule change explained in By-Laws. After a group cleanup we all retired to our cabins. Stan and Rex went from one pound behind to win the Classic by about one pound (12.49). Mark and Pam took the second place about one Pound behind (11.54). Max and Brian took a lesson from Mom and moved from sixth to third. (10.96) and second day big bass. Jeff and Otis started in fourth and finished in fourth. Lynn and Joan lost two places 3rd to 5th (7.84). Gary and Dennis finished with 6.57. Steve and I finished out the field with 4.00 even. I’m not sure what the pay out was but every body cashed at least a $100.00 check.

We have been a structured, organized Bass Club since 1984.
Team Fishing at it’s best
You don't need a partner but it helps. This could be a father, mother, brother, sister, friend or as I have had the privilege of fishing with my daughter. Just show up at a tournament ready to fish. You and a partner can fish one tournament for one Mambership($50.00) +($30.00) tournament fee. ''CAUTION'' team fishing could be addictive. If you are looking for a big payday this is not the club to be in.
This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven, he saw me, and he asked: My child, what is your greatest wish for today?
I responded: "Lord please; take care of the person who is reading this message, their family and their special friends. They deserve it and I love them very much". The love of God is like the ocean, you can see its beginnings but Not its end.
