SMOKING
It's no secret that smoking is bad for your health. It's also no secret that nicotine addiction is very difficult to break. There are products to help break the smoking habit: the "patch", medications, homeopathic remedies; and there are various stop smoking programs associated with many hospitals and clinics. Many health insurance plans will cover at least some, if not all, of the costs for participation in these programs. If you're a smoker and want to give it up, you should discuss it with your doctor so that you and he/she can develop an appropriate plan just for you. In the meantime, here's a list of some things you can do instead of smoking.
. Write a letter
. Chew some sugarless gum
. Take a walk
. Read a book
. Sweep a floor
. Clean out a closet
. Wash the car
. Sit silent
. Snack on some carrot or celery sticks
. Say a prayer
. Drink some water or fruit juice
. Eat an apple
. Do your laundry
. Iron a shirt
. Go to the movies
. Have a mint
. Brush your teeth
. Work on a project you've been putting off
. Go to places where smoking is not allowed
. Design your own website
These are the things which spring into my mind, and I'm sure you can come up with a couple of things yourself.
If you're having trouble in your effort to quit smoking, don't give up even if you relapse. Start over again. Don't beat yourself up for relapsing. As the Friends of Bill W. would say, "Easy does it" and "One day at a time". I wish you success in your efforts.
